About me

LocationMonahans, Texas, United States
IntroductionThe Desert Sands Garden Club began in September of 1961 with Grace Asbury, Kathlyn C. Dunagan and 60 other women in the community. It was started as way to help them gain a knowledge of the kinds of flowers, trees and shrubs that would grow in the conditions they encountered here in Ward County. After working on their own yards, they went on to focus on beautifying their community. Some of the projects they have worked on over the years have included the Sandhills State Park, planting pecan trees at the West Texas Children's Home, landscaping at the Ward County Library and the Convention Center and Atrium, the Pavilion in the Monahans Cemetery, and the landscapng at the Million Barrel Museum. The club isn't as large as it once was but very active in supporting the beautifying of the community they call home.
