About me

Introduction Altruism or insanity? Fifteen years after leaving medical school, I have finally completed my higher surgical training. Perhaps not one to take a standard approach to work or life, somehow we have decided as a family (I have a wife and three young daughters) to travel to Africa to work on a voluntary basis at a hospital in Tanzania for five months. We leave behind a comfortable home, fantastic careers, great schools for the chidlers, an amazing support network…. and head out into a very different place…. Some suggest that this might be committing career suicide (and perhaps my third attempt), or will it in fact be the most important thing I have ever done professionally?
