Introduction I am a child of the '60s, having come of age right in the center of the Civil Rights, Black Power, and Women's Liberation Movements. I was on campus (Indiana University) from 1966 to 1970 when the now forgotten "race" riots, Civil Rights Marches, and anti-Vietnam War protests were at their height. Back then, as young "radicals" and indeed "revolutionaries, we actually believed that we were the vanguard in a world-changing era. It was during this period that I first began to write seriously, beginning with poetry and progressing to essays and some fiction. I have been published in a number of mainly "minority-focused" magazines and newspapers since most "mainstream" publications consider me far too "radical" for their readership. I have traveled the world since then, studiously avoiding Europe. Yes, I am a Black man (nee African American). But I do not "hate" white people or Europeans.....I simply believe that travel in the so-called Third World is more instructive and meaningful for me than travel in Europe would be. After all, white Americans are first cousins of most Europeans. Thus, I am simply pro-Black, not anti-white.
