| Introduction | International writer Warren Rodwell was based in China from 2002 - 2011 , and taught university postgraduates in Chengdu, as well as elsewhere.
Many of his feature stories, reviews and photographs have been published online or in hardcopy media form. Warren also narrated documentaries and administered various websites as part of his efforts to promote Chengdu and Sichuan culture more globally. From 5 December 2011 until 23 March 2013, Warren Rodwell was kidnapped by Islamic terrorist extremists (Abu Sayyaf) in the southern Philippines. At 472 days, Warren is the longest held Australian captive [for the least amount paid (less than 5% of the original demand)] outside of war time.
