About me

Introduction Following the IGLYO conference last July 19-23 in Amsterdam and the 2nd International LGBT Human Rights Conference at the Copenhagen 2009 World Outgames from July 25 to August 2, 2009, this is a space for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer activists from and working in the global South to meet, discuss and explore ways of working together, regionally and globally, to put forward a global South-specific agenda and action on the human rights of persons struggling against systemic and structural violations of rights and freedoms including discrimination on the bases of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. As activists, we recognize and work towards addressing the unique and complex problems and issues faced by people in the global South and in our subregions. While we use the umbrella term LGBTIQ, we recognize and respect the existence, the diversity, and the equality of various orientations and identities within our own cultural contexts. Lastly, this is also a space that is work in progress; while we continue to build on our unities as a global group we also respect the diversity of our issues, struggles and strategies.
