| Introduction | I joined Al-Anon in 2010. In 2009 I began a long-term relationship with a person in recovery and found myself behaving in ways that didn’t work. I came to realize that these defenses had helped me avoid relationships in the past, and that, in general, the idea of “relating” terrified me. Through working the Al-Anon program, connecting with my higher power and writing with gratitude, I am given a new perspective every day. I am granted the ability to be a worker among workers. No one can speak for Al-Anon, ACOA or AA as a whole. These reflections are just what I’ve taken from these programs and those who practice them. |
