| Introduction | My name is Shawn Stern. I am inventor at heart and this forum is to spill the occational concept or rant to probe how others feel towards that subject - nothing is taboo. I went to school for Mechinical Engineering at MIT because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do - a majority of the time I float through life like a log in the ocean; taken where the tide decides to move me. MIT was one of those cycles - but it taught me a huge amount about how to dissect any situation and come to a logical, dependable answer. I call myself an inventor because what I took from ME was the fact that I love to create... but as the saying goes, an undergrad degree in Mechanical Engineering only really qualifies you to design the box the cool shit comes in. So, I decided to focus more on software development because the cycles are shorter and the payoff larger in terms of the immediate gratification gained from building and visually seeing and interacting with your inventions. Make sense? I think so... or at least that's what I've convinved myself of. It's hard to tell and living in Seattle truly allows you to fall into programming pretty easily. |
