| Introduction | I was raised in the suburbs by nurturing, liberal parents. My childhood in brief: sunshine, popsicles and private education. I played sports in high school and did all of my homework. Throughout high school and college, what separated me from the the actual smart kids was laziness and cynicism. I am often referred to as "that weird quiet girl" (this has been revealed to me by many friends after the fact). All of the above contribute to a self-consciousness that I can never quite shake and a looming fear that I will be perceived as boring and suburban for the rest of my life. |
