About me

Introduction	I've traveled in and written about the Nordic countries and Sápmi for many years, and have published numerous books about the North, including translations, travel narratives, and cultural history. Most recently I translated By the Fire, a collection of Sámi folktales, many told by women, collected and illustrated by the Danish ethnographer and artist, Emilie Demant Hatt (1873-1958). The University of Minnesota Press will publish a new book in February, 2023, From Lapland to Sápmi: Collecting and Returning Sámi Craft and Culture, with stories of Sámi objects and their makers over the centuries. www.barbarasjoholm.com has more about all my books.
