Introduction | I was educated in Glasgow and moved to the Left Bank of Paris when I was 22 to learn French and find myself - I worked and lived at Shakespeare & Co. opposite the Notre Dame- the original publishers of Joyce's Ulysses - and fell in love with writers, books, words. And I have never fallen out of love. From Paris I went to London at the age of 26 to begin a career in publishing. Since then, I have been lucky enough to work with the most gifted writers and for the most amazing publishing houses. A few years ago I became a literary agent, principally to give me more control of my time, as I had by then - very sadly in one way, very magically in another - three children to bring up alone. In 2009 I founded my literary consultancy, The Writing Room, to allow me to work directly with writers, published or unpublished, whatever their current level of attainment. I have dedicated my life to the written word and to writers, and nothing inspires me so much, or brings me so much happiness. |
