| Introduction | Since Andy's arrival in Finland in 2011 he has worked in health related services and consultancy. His background in healthcare provision and training in counselling psychotherapy have proved a good fit with persons of varying cultural backgrounds who need support and guidance. While his experience in healthcare and counselling psychotherapy gives him a unique insight into change and phase of life issues we all face, his experience working in various other countries has enhanced his acculturation and facilitation skills. From 1996 to 2002 Andy lived and worked in Alto Hospicio in Northern Chile where he worked in human rights advocacy in parish and community development. From 1994 - 1996 he worked with the Immigrant Council in London in the UK where he worked with ethnic minorities in procuring rights and related integration servcies. Andy's M.A degree and qualifications have been validated and recognized by the Finnish National Board of Education. |
| Interests | Andy supervised project staff whose caseloads included persons, family units and support groups affected negatively by substance misuse. All staff had certification and accreditation in clinical case delivery informed by theoretical frameworks such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Harm Reduction and the Twelve Step programme espoused by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Andy devised and delivered training for a therapeutic support group informed by narrative therapy and Robert Kegan's Theory of Change. Along with therapeutic intervention work, Andy devised and delivered health education programs to secondary school students and adults in adult learning centers. |
