| Introduction | John’s understanding of the South African lowveld landscapes guided the early Biosphere Reserve thinking in the region. Described as the ’key project initiator’ he was the founding chairman of the UNESCO Kruger to Canyons Biosphere Reserve, registered in 2002. He enrolled at the Technical College Art School in Durban in 1966 and studied sculpture. He also spent five years of his life as a commercial line fisherman in the Eastern Cape. John had a career as an A E and art director and was founder of Williams Trickett & Partners, a design group, established in Durban in the early 80’s He lives in Stanford where his love and understanding of the coastal landscapes of the Overberg grew. He is the founding chairman of the Save Bantamsklip Association, established to oppose the siting of a nuclear power station on the Agulhas coast at Bantamsklip. He is currently motivating for the Dyer Island marine sanctuary and Agulhas coast to be considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has launched an international petition to save Bantamsklip. |
