| Introduction | Ed Shaske was born in Alberta and received a degree in business economics from the University of Alberta; in 1978 Ed was awarded a Banff School of Advanced Management certificate. Ed’s formal career experiences include: economist for an Alberta cement manufacturer; economist, strategic planner and international trade negotiator for the Government of Alberta (including; Associate Alberta Trade Representative for the Canada – United States Free Trade Negotiations); and marketing director for an Alberta crown corporation. After retiring from government service Ed and his wife moved to their rural acreage about an hour’s drive from Edmonton and today volunteers his experiences to numerous community organizations in the Smoky Lake area. For the past five years, Ed has offered his insights into politics and economics through a weekly opinion column in the region’s newspaper, the Smoky Lake Signal. |
