| Introduction | I am the Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Oakland, a unique and wonderful church in the rapidly revitalizing area of Downtown Oakland. I am committed to urban ministry, and I very much want to find ways to connect with our new neighbors in this growing community. My blog is my way of reaching out to young adults for their thoughts, opinions, and interests on matters of faith, social justice, and their daily life issues. I want to learn as much as I contribute. I love the San Francisco Bay Area, and I believe that the values of our church are harmonious with our locale. B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz, Masters of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary and did doctoral work for three years at the Graduate Theological Union and Cal Berkeley. My work was in “dead languages and rock and roll”—or Interdisciplinary Studies in the Use of the Old Testament in the Gospels. I also serve as adjunct faculty in Biblical Studies at San Francisco Theological Seminary and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific (Episcopal). |
