| Introduction | Let me tell you about myself. I was born in Cambridge UK and I spent the first twenty-two years of my life in England. After I finished my degree at Sheffield University I came to Spain “for a year”. That was in 1981! 29 years later I’m still here. Over the years I’ve done a variety of work, but almost all of it related to English and Spanish. Most of my early work was teaching in “academias”, but I soon decided to go freelance. I branched out into translating. About 18 years ago I got the chance to work with the University of Cambridge and their well known examinations for students of English. Today, I teach at the University of Murcia in the Servicio de Idiomas and in some businesses in the private sector; I translate research articles, legal contracts and even the occasional book; I do some simultaneous and consecutive interpreting; I examine for Cambridge and I also travel around Spain giving talks to teachers, schools and businesses about Cambridge exams and how to prepare for them. If that wasn’t enough, I’ve just started a slot on a radio programme with Onda Regional Murcia, and so I need a blog to accompany it! |
