IntroductionIt all started when my daughter and I brought home six adorable chicks to raise as egg laying hens. This was to be our summer project, borne out of our desire to create a mini farm in our back yard, and extend this endeavor beyond the basic vegetable garden. That and we are suckers for animals. If it were up to us, we'd have a cow, sheep, goats, a pony to ride... you name it, we'd have it. What we lack is space for all of the above. For now, suffice it to say, we have two dogs, a giant rabbit and six chickens on our one acre lot, and we are happier for it. Together, Brie and I will share our adventures in suburban farming, as well as activities that celebrate the pleasures of simple living. As trendy terms like "sustainable" and "locavore" buzz through our communities, fleshing out these concepts into actual, long-term practices for a better future is our intention. Above all, the creation of our farm is a giant step forward in raising our family to appreciate the value of food, land, and our intimate connection to both ends. This is a lifestyle change we can all embrace. Thanks for reading our blog! ~ Elizabeth & Brie
