| Introduction | Photography is what I do in time snatched from everything else that jostles for space in everyday life. It’s also one of the key ways in which I experience the world.
I have a soft spot for ‘lo-fi’ photography partly because, for all its technical limitations, it tends to bring to the fore the raw photographic ability from which pristine technical perfection can sometimes distract; also, because it’s accessible to people who love photography but can’t afford high-end, highly priced photographic equipment. I hardly ever arrange my subject and, if I do, then I opt for minimal intervention; I appreciate and relish serendipity. Similarly, I keep digital tweaking to a minimum: the effects you see in all photographs, unless otherwise stated, are created by overexposure, cropping, and adjusting the contrast, highlights, and blacks. |
