Introduction Bruno Nebe is an lifelong world expert in Namibian wildlife and their interactions with native ecosystems. Paul Rankin was a Senior Research Fellow in Philips Electronics, authoring 40 patents and numerous publications during 36 years of research across diverse scientific domains. A study of the cultural impact of the Internet on tribal communities under a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship led to Reuters Digital Vision Fellow at Stanford University. He was the social entrepreneur and technical architect behind ‘Voices in Your Hand’ a novel information and communication technology solution for poor communities, which became a major pilot in a Brazilian shantytown (http://voices.stanford.edu ) He is co-founder of Living Cultural Storybases, a non-profit empowering indigenous communities to capture and nurture their oral heritage via innovative, but appropriate digital tools (http://www.storybases.org )
