Introduction I'm a 36 year old medical writer with a Ph.D. who has a secret... even though I'm working full time and look pretty normal, I'm not. I suffer from several debilitating chronic conditions. I have interstitial cystitis (IC; a chronic and painful bladder disease with no cure), fibromyalgia, chronic myofascial pain, migraines, asthma/allergies, and dermatographism. On the surface, I appear happy and productive. I go to work, I do errands, and I go out with friends. That's just my disguise - what you don't see is that most days, I wake up with at least one part of my body killing me, and I'm exhausted by about 2pm. Most days, I take about 15 pills - more if something is flaring up. One treatment for my IC involves catheterizing myself and inserting medication directly into my bladder. I have an implanted neurostimulator to control how often I pee (without it, I'm in the bathroom 30 or more times per day). I don't remember the last time I went a month without seeing at least one doctor. This blog is meant to be a chronicle of my adventures in a world of Normals....
