IntroductionFor me, HOME COUNTRY is situated near the small southwestern Utah town of Rockville, on a 20-acre homestead we call LIVINGOOD FARM. The Virgin river runs through it, and we look out on the majestic peaks of Zion National Park. Looking back on a life in which I have been a warrior, a wanderer, and a tour guide,I have tried my hand at writing, publishing, lecturing, photography, broadcasting, teaching, and a long list of public service jobs. I still produce and host a long-running weekly radio talk show, write a regular newspaper column, and speak to a wide range of audiences. I enjoy working with ancient sourdough cultures to bake rustic loaves of artisan bread, inventing many variations of soups and stews, and working with fine, handcrafted cheeses. Food, its history and endless possibilities enrich a life-long acquaintance with root cellars, heirloom apples, and products from the soil. I am unashamedly enamored with history and tradition, and my collection of American flags dating from the revolution includes regimental colors from the Civil War period. At heart, I am a story-teller in search of stories to tell and people to tell them to.
