Occupation | Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist |
Location | Writing from the state with the worst fruit and veg consumption in the nation!, United States |
Introduction | A registered dietitian fed up with the misinformation spreading like wildfire about school lunch reform. Because I was given the opportunity to do some specialized training in school lunch reform combined with my education as a registered dietitian and mom of an elementary student, I hope to answer some questions and clear up some confusion about the changes in the school lunch program happening now. Our school food service directors work hard with limited time and a limited budget to provide 33-90% of child nutrition. What a huge responsibility! Habits formed now will last forever as the foundation of health. Good nutrition prevents chronic disease, which has a taxing effect on every one of us. While these changes in the national school lunch program are a growing pain, they also present some opportunity. I hope to provide information here to make it easier for schools to implement and adapt these changes for their students--the future of our nation that deserve the best nutrition we can provide! |
