About me

LocationKoto Ward, Tokyo, Japan
IntroductionI remember being thrilled by the Detroit skyline as a 5-year old passing through downtown while traveling with my family to a Sicilian clan gathering. Out west, I felt the same excitement looking out the car window at the approaching downtown LA skyline from the Harbor Freeway. My happiest memories in Seattle were of living downtown near Pike Place Market after finishing my urban geography degree at U of Washington. I lived in Manhattan during a stint driving cab in New York and spent a summer in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn when I was a summer intern working in Tower 1 of the WTC. I did my doctorate in urban economics in the Regional Science department at Penn and lived in Center City Philadelphia during most of my time there. I have lived in Tokyo for the past 16 years and have lived in the city's Koto Ward for the past 11. It's urban, ecletic and only about 10 minutes from Tokyo Station by cab. I run a small real estate consulting firm; my clients are primarily international commerical real estate investors. I am married to Yukari Scalvini who is, yes, Japanese-Italian. My three daughters are Caroline Rose, Isabella Mei and Caterina Aki.
