Introduction I was a potter prior to developing my current range of hand painted tiles. My affair with clay began years ago when a friend gave me a piece of terracotta clay to play with. After making many handmade pots, I needed to find out how to fire and glaze them. My journey with clay, glazes and firing techniques had begun. Over time I learned to use a pottery wheel, eventually producing functional domestic ware, using high fired stoneware and porcelaneous clays. My interest at that time was both in form and glaze quality. After many years making and selling functional pots, I enrolled at Victoria College (now part of VCA), completing a BA in Fine Arts majoring in ceramics. It was during this period that I was able to experiment. I learned about pit and saggar firing, and later, began to decorate earthenware pots with bright colours. Quite a departure from the more traditional work I had been making. The decoration on these pots was the catalyst that led me to the technique I now employ on my hand painted tiles.
