Introduction Obiwu received a Ph.D. (with distinction) in English with emphasis on Critical Theory from Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York. Obiwu’s books and essays have been widely acclaimed. His third book, Tigress at Full Moon (New York, 2012) was #1 on the Amazon.com bestselling "Hot New Releases in African" (black poetry and criticism) and #20 on the Amazon.com 100 "Hot New Releases in Poetry" of February 2012. He won the Donatus Nwoga Prize for Literary Criticism in Poetry (2009) with his essay on “The Ecopoetics of Christopher Okigbo and Ezra Pound.” He was a fellow of the Presidential Leadership Institute, Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio (2011), and a fellow of the International School of Theory in the Humanities (1998). His other awards include the Charanjit Rangi Leadership Award for Faculty Professional Excellence from Central State University (2008) and the Resolution Recognition (No. 07-4-12-31) from the Greene County Board of Commissioners, Ohio (2007).
