IntroductionI took a keen interest in the markets some time ago and started trading full-time in Mar 2009, leaving behind a career in patent law. I've traded virtually all asset classes and styles, and will continue to do so, as remarkable opportunities arise in different corners of the market at different times. I am not against backtesting, and indeed backtesting is preferable for many applications, but I feel that because there are so many factors impacting a security's price, backtesting often ignores the concurrent circumstances impacting a trade. Ulysses S. Grant: "Some of our generals failed because they worked out everything by rule. They knew what Frederick did at one place, and Napoleon at another. They were always thinking about what Napoleon would do... I don't underrate the value of military knowledge, but if men make war in slavish observance to rules, they will fail... War is progressive." Abe Lincoln: "My policy is to have no policy." Thus, I lean towards applying common sense to discretionary trading. I welcome sharing ideas with other similar-minded speculators.
