| Introduction | This blog has two parts. In one part writings of Shamsul Islam in different languages are uploaded. He taught political science at the University of Delhi for 40 years. As an author, columnist and street theatre activist he is known for his unrelenting opposition to religious intolerance, de-humanization, neo-imperialism and persecution of women, Dalits and minorities. He regularly writes in English, Hindi and Urdu. His works have been translated in almost all Indian languages. He is a keen researcher of the rise of modern nationalism and its subsequent conversion into competitive religious nationalisms. The other part consists of Shamsul Islam's writings on culture and writings of others on Nishant Natya Manch (Nishant in Hindi means 'end of darkness', Natya Manch stands for Theater Forum), a street theatre group based in Delhi which performs in Hindi, Urdu, Haryanvi, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Punjabi against de-gradation of women, de-humanization, caste persecution, religious intolerance, war-hysteria, atomic bombs, so called globalization, corruption, loot, and repression. |
