Introduction | My name is Jane but my grandkids call me "Gigi." I originally signed up on google to comment on my daughter's blog about life with her baby girl. Of course, I wanted to comment as "Gigi." When I started my own blog, it popped up that way and I never changed it. So, yes, it's a bit confusing for the blog to be called "Jane Says" and the sign off to be "Gigi." Oh well. :) I was an Air Force brat, but I never dreamed I would live in Alaska. I moved to Unalaska in 2004 after living in West Texas for many years, starting over at age 50 with a new husband, a new job and a new life. I haven't regretted a minute of it, though I miss my kids and grandkids and look forward to every visit with them. I'm a social worker by training and worked in that field for over 30 years but now work part time for our local public radio and TV station. It's the most fun I've ever had at a job! I believe that travel opens our eyes and our minds. I know that each of us makes a difference in the world, for better or worse. I'll always be a rock 'n roller. I don't cook because my husband Rich is a chef. Lucky me! |
Interests | Keeping up with my five precious grandchildren and trying to figure out ways to see them more often, hanging out with my girls and their hubbies, spending time with family and friends, reading, writing, music, politics, photography, traveling with Rich, volunteering in the community, working on social justice issues, trying to learn to play the piano, enjoying my husband's phenomenal cooking. I am a cat person. I read nonfiction. I judge a restaurant by its iced tea. Being a grandmother is more fun than just about anything else. |
Favorite Movies | Usually those "based on a true story, " documentaries, indie films, historical films, movies with a message, but sometimes a comedy or a purely escapist movie are satisfying, too. |
Favorite Music | Mostly a rocker but also like oldies, alternative and classical musica. My all time Big Three are Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and U2. :) |
Favorite Books | Nonfiction, biographies, history, politics, stories of individuals overcoming adversity and making a difference in their world, radicals, activists, those out of the mainstream of society. Trying to read more novels but I tend to reach for non fiction first. |
If you were a cannibal, what would you wear to dinner?
Lady Gaga's controversial meat dress might fit the occasion. :)
