| Introduction | Amblyopia or 'lazy eye' is a disease that occurs when both the human eyes doesn’t react to the stimulus in the same way i.e one eye is lazy with respect to the other . This may be due to strabismus (abnormal alignment of one or both eyes ), anisometropia (unequal refractive error) or obstruction of vision. The prevalence of amblyopia varies from 1% to 5%, with SDA (stimulus deprivation amblyopia) constituting less than 3% of all amblyopia cases. SDA develops due to obstruction of vision in early childhood by conditions such as cataract (cloudy lens) or ptosis (droopy eyelid). Amblyopia causes more visual loss in the under 40 group than all the eye injuries, and diseases combined in this age group. |
