Introduction The way Nate Taylor came to love sports wasn’t uncommon. He idolized Michael Jordan, was brainwashed by Nike and loved the local Kansas City Chiefs. One day he realized writing made lovers of the game, too. Taylor hasn’t forgotten a book signing for Joe Posnanski’s The Soul of Baseball — and the company that joined him. He remembers how there were so many older women at Borders for the signing. Then, he heard what the women were saying about how Posnanski had made them start to read the sports section of The Kansas City Star every day with his writing. The experience made Taylor think about the impact sports can have on any reader. From that day, Taylor has tried to get new readers to the sports section through his own writing. Taylor, 22, also gives credit to his high school journalism teacher Karen Black for helping him realize his dream of being a sportswriter. He joined the high school newspaper when he was a young and overexcited junior. Since then, Taylor has written for the university newspaper, The Muleskinner, The Quad-City Times, The Minneapolis Star Tribune and The Kansas City Star.
