Introduction	When I retired from full-time teaching at Indiana University I worried that I would not find enough things to fill my time. As I cleaned out my office and shipped my library to universities in Turkey, a great feeling of loss washed over me. My identity had been so tied up with my work that it seemed like it was ripped away as the name plate was removed from the office that had been my home for so many years. Others had probably written about grief they experienced as they left their old lives behind them. But I'd never seen any guidebook on how to cope with the change. After more than a year away from my daily routines in Bloomington, Indiana, I have been renewed by shorter-term projects, travel to new places and return trips to familiar places. This blog is an account of some of my experiences and the ways I am using those new tires to roll down some different roads.
