Why I Love Moby Dick

Introduction	This adventure came out of writing a post about Moby-Dick for The Stake. That single post was just delightful to write, so I thought a whole blog about the same might be fun, and would at least give home to the ideas and themes swirling around from that first exercise in trying to nail down why this book is so beloved and variously understood. Melville might decry such labors as blogging about his whale of a book to be a ridiculous, unnecessary, redundant, and overall thankless effort undertaken by a poor devil of a sub-sub-librarian who is too hopeless, sallow, and/or weakly dreamy-eyed to do anything useful in this world, but I find Moby-Dick to be too weird, funny, and beautiful to not try to share that perspective in the wider world. It's either this, or a pistol and ball.
