Introduction PLACE matters to me. Whether I’m in the woods, on the coast, or walking the streets of urban areas – I find beauty in the everyday. I SEE. I observe and I’m always looking for more. There is BEAUTY to be found in everything. I walk, I formulate / gather ideas about the urban community and the discontinuous areas left behind. Detritus tells me a story about PLACE. This way of SEEING in my practice / work is an extension of learning as a child into adulthood to look and learn through culture, travel and architecture. There is life visually beyond the gentrified and pristine. I have chosen to develop a visual vocabulary of what I have found beautiful. There is beauty to be found within destruction, weathered, industrial tracts; often an unfortunate reminder of our crumbling infrastructure and its areas of poverty and urban blight. I want to make people pause, take a second look at what traditionally isn't considered beautiful, to unquestionably “see” what’s in front of them and around them, thereby creating a more curious and open person.
