Introduction Allison Spicer was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan where she was raised in the traditional suburban environment complete with cul-de-sacs and perfectly manicured lawns. Her eyes were opened and bubble broken when she arrived at the University of Michigan, where she received a BA in Literature, Science and Art (concentration in Political Science and History of Art). This is where she learned to think. Believing in the power and necessity of art, youth education and providing time and space for a progressive voice, she entered into the MAAE graduate program at the School of the Art Institute Chicago. Her research involves youth voice in democracy, evaluation and ethics of art organizations, and the integration of art in public education reform. Allison is a currently a practicing 2D visual artist. She has been a teaching artist since 2002 (locations: British School(Chicago), Museum of Contemporary Art, Ralph J. Bunche(Detroit), Marwen, Snow City Arts, Hyde Park Art Center (N.Kenwood Acad, Akiba Schecter), Street Level Youth Media(Nicholson), Smart Museum of Art and Art Institute of Chicago. artist in Chicago.
