| Introduction | "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." This sentence from Leonardo da Vinci describes the basic driving power behind my creative work. In the very complex world we live, I'm fascinated and seek the underlying simplicity. When I regard a form I look for the essential parts in it. When this "core" is found, I build these essential parts together into my personal reinterpretation of the original. The construction of the quilts, building them up from simple elements to complex systems is very much in accordance with my way of thinking. I consider myself a seeker. All my life I have been seeking my personal place in the world and a way to express myself. In the last 25 years I've moved to a new country, changed my profession, learned three new languages but I really felt like settling down only about 10 years ago, when I started quilting. Whenever I'm working, I'm content, happy, excited, and thoughtful. Whenever I'm working, I'm proud of myself and of my work. This is a wonderful achievement. I observe my surroundings, contemplate my experiences, translate them into forms and colors and so I try to communicate with my viewer. |
