IntroductionI was born in South Louisiana before the end of segregation. As a child, I drank from white water fountains and sat in white movie theaters. Our beaches had sand, the colored beaches had grass. With my parents, I traveled Route 66 - the Mother Road. Then, in the 6th grade, I sat on the ground and watched the mayor break a bottle of champagne christening the new Interstate 10. The highway would later span the entire United States. When the Civil Rights rioting began, I moved to San Francisco - joined marches and protests, sat in and dropped out with hippies, and witnessed the horrors of Viet Nam. I started writing in the fifth grade. Over the next 10 years, I played with the art of poetry, while my friends shaped the world of southern rock. I was never a rock icon, but I was deeply honored to be included in Marquis's Who's Who of American Women. While this blog is under construction, it will be the basis of my book "From the Dust of Louisiana". I hope you will return when the book is complete.
