| Introduction | During the Great Depression in 1936, 113 citizens of Rome, Georgia, were given temporary licenses to act as insurance agents and sell insurance policies, in an effort to revive a company under the state insurance commissioner. After the sale of more than $1 million worth of insurance, with the addition of the policies managed by the insurance commissioner’s office, the State Mutual Insurance was born. It is currently a national insurer for Medicare Supplement Insurance, and commits itself to community service. |
