| Introduction | Kirmanj Gundi was born in Kurdistan. As he was growing up as a young teenager, he found his people in a war zone with the Iraqi government. The Kurdish liberation movement, which had started in 1961, collapsed in 1975. The dream of achieving Kurdish national rights turned into a nightmare. Thousands of Kurds people (Kirmanj’s family included) became refugees in Iran. on August 24, 1977, he arrived in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1979, he took the GED exam (equivalence to high school diploma) and passed. In 1985, he received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science—in 1987, he received a teacher certificate with the endorsement in mathematics—in the fall of 1992, he started teaching math and computer science at Hunters Lane High School. In 1994, he received a master's degree, and in 1998, a doctorate in Educational Administration. In the fall 2000—he started teaching at Tennessee State University at the graduate level—and has been enjoying teaching, researching, and helping students to achieve their dreams. In 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, and since August 2011, he has been promoted to the rank of Full Professor. |
