Introduction	I have been teaching children with special needs for 5 years now. The first couple of years was with 12th grade students diaganosed with emotional disturbances. The past 3 years have been with kindergarten and first grade - non-categorical. (That means the student can have any disability). I became a special educator because I felt "the calling" when I was in Junior High. I would spend my free time helping the special ed. teacher there, volunteering in her classroom. From then on, I have worked with children with special needs in one way or another. To me, they have a special quality and knowledge that the general population doesn't have. I end up learning just as much from them as they do from me.
