Introduction For as long as I can recall I've wanted to be a "Cow Boy", listening in awe as my father and grandfather talked of horseback adventures deep into the Rocky Mountains of Western Canada, guiding hunters, swimming rivers, living the life only the heartiest men could survive. School was nothing more than an inconvenience and most often the teacher's voice faded and I found myself dreaming of being surrounded by hostiles, trying to fight my way out or mustering a 1000 head of longhorns across the great divide. By my 13th summer I was working for a guide outfitter in the rugged mountains of British Columbia learning to ride, pack horses and navigate the steep mountain trails. I now look back over nearly 30 years of adventure filled life as a mountain guide, farrier and horseman. I certainly saw my share of wrecks, felt my body break more than once and saw my own sweat and blood run freely. I wouldn't change a single thing and now looking back I'm find myself in solemn thanks for the mighty horse and the way he helped shape my life. On the pages that follow I wish for you to meet those individual animals and the adventures we shared.
