About me

Location Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Introduction I am passionate about raising strong and confident girls. Blending pop culture critique and inspirational ideas I hope my blog will engage readers in creative and proactive responses to the cultural onslaught of images and values that threaten the mental and physical well being of girls and women. I have worked with girls and women for over 20 years in counselling and health education roles. I'm a mom, a feminist, a sometimes writer and public speaker. The name of this blog comes from three inspirational feminist activists who shaped my values as I grew up. Holly Near, singer/songwriter, compelled us to be a "gentle angry people" working for social change. Gloria Steinem, journalist, wrote the first book I ever read about self-esteem: "Revolution from Within". And finally, my big sister Ann who every day showed me alternatives to mainstream expectations for what it means to be a girl. She also bought me my first Holly Near album for my 12th birthday and in doing so, sparked my personal revolution.
