| Introduction | Working as the Director of Rural Based Community Care.The work I am involved with takes care of the Health and Educational needs of the Tribal people of Lahaul and Spitti. The two centers are situated over high mountain passes of Himachal Pradesh and cut off from the main land in winter due to heavy snow and freezing conditions. I perform hundreds of surgeries at these centers and also at surgical camps organized by the Government. I am part of a small committed team of health workers and take up challenges to ease the unnecessary sufferings of neglected people. At present we are also involved in setting up model preschools so as to train preschool teachers to help the many village children. As a practical surgeon, I am interested in what can be done in a situation rather than worry about the latest and the best which do not exist in rural India. |
