IntroductionGrowing up in rural Missouri, I learned hunting and firearm safety early from my grandfather and uncles. At eleven, I harvested my first Missouri White Tail Deer with his Springfield 03, 30-06 from WWI. By twelve, I had my first shotgun—a Mossberg Model 185K bolt-action 20 gauge—and spent countless days hunting squirrels with friends, using .22 pistols for a challenge. These experiences instilled a deep respect for the outdoors, marksmanship, and responsible hunting. At seventeen, I joined the Army, qualifying with the M1 Garand and 1911 .45 ACP. I later trained with the BAR, M-14, .30 Carbine, and M-16, witnessing the evolution of military rifles. During my service, I acquired a Ruger Blackhawk .44 Mag and a Browning Sweet 16—firearms I still wish I had. After my honorable discharge in 1968, I attended San Jose State University, embracing the ‘60s and ‘70s counterculture before returning to Missouri’s hills and woods. A lifelong outdoorsman and firearm enthusiast, I’ve spent years honing my skills, collecting classic firearms, and exploring the backwoods. My passion for learning, adventure, and tradition continues to shape my journey.
