| Introduction | Early on a Saturday morning, a big pot bubbles on the stove, filling the house with the aromas of fresh basil, fragrant tomato just hours out of the garden; gratings of garlic, nutmeg, cheese; and, most of all, the unmistakable sense of family, warmth and wholesome goodness. When you wake up with those aromas in the house, you wake up knowing, on some deep level, that you are loved. That someone cares about you so much that they have been up and cooking warm, nourishing food for you before you even opened your eyes. It is love in its most solid, tangible, form. Love on a spoon. That is 'back home' for me. That is how I grew up, and that is what I am trying to recreate in my own home, with my own family. And that is how, and why, I am striving to get back home. |
