About me

Location Illinois
Introduction My motto: "Preserve and document local history and family genealogy for future generations". My name is Vern Paddock & my hobby is genealogy which I have been doing since the early 1970s. My first historic restoration project was the Mother Rudd House in Gurnee which was built in 1843 by my 3rd ggparents, Jonathan and Wealthy (Buell) Harvey. After the death of Jonathan, Wealthy married Erastus Rudd, thus, the Mother Rudd Home now occupied by the Warren Township Historical Society. My 2nd project was the restoration of the Fort Hill Cemetery, the burial ground of my 3rd ggmother, Lucy (Backus) Paddock, who moved from Barre, VT in 1855. I have written 2 articles for the Lake County IL Genealogical Society re. the Fort Hill Cemetery. I'm currently writing a chronological history of Volo and the St. Peter's Church (2022).
Interests Led the (1) restoration of the Fort Hill Cemetery in Avon Township, Lake County, IL (2017-2022) https://www.forthillcemetery.org/ and (2) restoration of the Mother Rudd Home (1988-1991) in Gurnee, Lake County, IL
