Introduction If it's not fun, I'm likely only doing it because I have to. That doesn't make for a very happy Helen. What do I do for fun?... What don't I do for fun! Suffice it say, I'm open to all things fun. I surround myself with quality people who inspire me to think and encourage me to laugh. Most fun happens over wine-laden dinners and Shakira-worthy moments on the dance floor. I'm a downtown Toronto inner city kid turned Balham Babe in Southwest London. When not in Canada or the UK, I like to be everywhere in between... the long way around.
Interests Stuff.
Favorite Movies This one requires far too much thought and I simply can't do it justice with all the filmies in my life. Really gotta' think about this one... another day. For now: All things suspense/thriller. RomComs are a must for the gay network. Action flicks reach out to that little bit of testosterone in me that had me wanting to grow up to be a Ninja, a licensed-to-kill Secret Agent... and a cat burglar. Old School black and whites and musicals that only play around Christmas for that warm and fuzzy feeling. I appreciate the creative stories within stories. You want titles? Off the cuff: Run Lola Run reminded me I've always wanted fire engine red hair. Under a Tuscan Sun may very well be a personal instruction manual. The Usual Suspects made me smirk. Before Sunrise invited me to dream of hopping off that train. The Thomas Crown Affair filled me with longing. And Team America- World Police made me fucking howl! CURRENT MOOD: Breafast at Tiffany's, Amelie and Kissing Jessica Stein. (Yes, it's a chick flick triple bill.)
Favorite Music When in the mood for a moving concert, Carmina Burana would be my classical escape of choice. I don't let go of my music loves of the past. Everything from U2 to Sigur Ros. Sinatra to Bon Jovi. Sting to Black Eyed Peas. Eurythmics to Peter Gabriel. Cindy Lauper to Kitaro. No Doubt, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morrisett and all angry chic music to tart up to before a night on the tiles. Good lord, I've barely touched upon my musical likes. It's just not going to happen. I haven't that kind of time. Throw in a little Buddha Bar, Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand, Basement Jaxx, Gorillaz... the list really does go on. The Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, Lily Allen when I'm feeling bouncy, Amy Winehouse, Mika...I give up! All things 80's to sing along to. And anything rump-shakin' worthy. Swing, Latin, a slow dance pressed up against a quick wit... (Because it's his mind I'm interested in on the dance floor?) A little jazz or classical over dinner. A whole lot of New Age to fall asleep to. (It takes me forever to fall asleep.) When not listening to Music, Radio 4 and 7 keep "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" and "Just a Minute" humming. Eddie Izzard. Yup, I'm all about the comedy and talk radio as of late. Now, how do you feel about Dulce Pontes' "Canção Do Mar"?
Favorite Books The Holden Caulfied in me SHOULD say "The Catcher in the Rye". Alas, I'm not 15 anymore and grow exceedingly grumpy when I should do something. All things Tom Robbins have peaked my interest. Damn guy's a colourful wordsmith. Good holiday read, that. The Griffin & Sabine Trilogy (in six parts?) makes for an easy yet inspiring read. James Joyce, Jeanette Winterson, Joseph O'Connor, Jasper Fforde, my journal...
