Introduction As a former journalist, Bonnie Toews has covered significant events such as the Rwandan genocide in 1994. Her eyewitness view contributes to the plight of children in war as a recurring theme through her novels. In 2013, Bonnie met John Christiansen, after their spouses had died from long illnesses. She was researching settings for her next novels in a thriller series when John talked about climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. Bonnie too had longed to return to Africa, so while he conquered the mountain, she visited an African orphanage. Their guides called them Bibi and Babu, which in Swahili meant grandma and grandpa, so after they documented their amazing trip in photos and stories for their children and grandchildren, Bonnie’s publisher, FutureWord, proposed they write a series of travel books based on BIBI & BABU’s trips around the world. The first book released is BIBI & BABU IN AFRICA. Currently, Bonnie advocates for better care and treatment of Canada's veterans and is a member of the Canadian Veterans Advocacy, Military Writers Society of America, Christian Writers' Association, American Authors Association and Independent Book Publishers Association.
