| Introduction | We cyclists are a lucky bunch. From the saddles of our velos we are treated to the world from a pretty incredible vantage point. It is intimate, exhilarating and intrepid. I am always reminded of the expression, 'remember why cycling is best: it's fast enough to get through the forest, but slow enough that you can see the trees', and I think that more or less sums up why I love riding my bike. It is first and foremost a mode of transport, a means of travel and a way of getting around. It never ceases to amaze me where, and how far you can go on two wheels and under your own steam. More importantly, it is the intimacy it provides, the connection you feel with your environment that just can't be matched from the seat of a car, train or boat. It is also an exciting form of exercise and a heroic sport, one that requires great courage and physical strength. I hope to encapsulate my passion for cycling in this blog through ride reports, articles on pro cycling, photos and some of my thoughts and observations whilst enjoying the world from my saddle. |
