Introduction The earth moves. On its own axis, around the sun and, sometimes, from under your feet. It happened to me the first time when I was a little girl. I overheard the grown-ups talking about Nelson Mandela being released from prison. The South Africa I grew up in turned out to be a big 'white' lie. Then my parents got divorced. The concept of family was no longer solid ground. Even my culture was not a haven anymore when the new SA government erased all the stories of my forefathers, from history books to street names. With the earth gone from under my feet, I had only two choices: to take to the sea or the sky. I always dreamed of travelling the world on a yacht; I wanted to see Paris and go to places where I can eat fresh pomegranate seeds from the skin - but I never quite grew my sea legs. So I really had only one option. To fly as often as possible, eat pomegranates whenever I can and keep the Eiffel Tower clear in my mind like a guiding beacon of light. Perhaps the earth is also moving under your feet today. Come with me. As the earth moves, so will we.
