About me

Occupation Fairtrade organisation
Location Durham, County Durham, United Kingdom
Introduction BAFTS has been in existence since 1998 and consists of independent suppliers and shops, united in bringing about changes in the status of developing world producers through Fair Trade retailing and campaigning. Our Fair Trade shops and suppliers promote social justice for the producers of the goods they sell, and work together to create an alternative model to conventional international trade, with human rights at the top of the agenda. Our aims are detailed fully on our website www.bafts.org.uk BAFTS member organisations are monitored and assessed annually, giving customers the confidence that they are buying from a shop with genuine fair trade concerns. Our membership criteria are based on the 10 World Fair Trade Principles of Fair Trade, of which members must show evidence when applying. All our members have the same reason for joining us - to support, promote and engage with fair trade. We are the national network representative of the World Fair Trade Organisation, and most of our members have links with Fairtrade Towns campaigns in the UK. Our Facebook and Twitter presence promotes events and stories to the wider public.
