IntroductionI am a flame-haired modern queer femme gal with Mid-century Modern taste. I love a great cocktail with 60's flair, like a Whiskey Highball, White Russian or Greyhound. I'm an artist, crafter and writer and love to have fun with my darling husband, explore my many, many hobbies and occasionally play sexy housewife. I'm returning to school in a few months to complete a second Bachelor's degree... hopefully in Landscape Architecture and take some classes in Fiber Arts, more Creative Writing, and probably even Herbalism. Basically, I'm the type of vampy, modern, tough-as-nails lady your mother warned you about and you always dreamed that you would meet but were scared to death that you would.
InterestsMid-Century Modern style, art, design, fashion, architecture & cocktails. Making art and crafts: painting, felting, coiling, bookaltering, collage, sculpture, welding, building all kinds of things, illustration, needleworks, jewelry-making, silver-smithing, mosaics, etc. Some of my work has been taught to me, much is self-taught. Writing. Writing. Writing. Reading everything worth my time. Creative green living and vegetarian homesteading. Gardening and landscaping, both indoors and out. Thrift store shopping! The joy of spending some days just writing, sketching art projects, journaling, drinking coffee or spicy tea and hanging out with my best dog friend, Dr J. Sustainability, environmentalism and animal rights/liberation. Cooking & baking. Sewing & fashion design. Slowly learning to knit. And if that happens, maybe even learning to crochet one day... so much Amigurumi to make! Spending time with my fabulously brilliant, witty, handsome husband & our many rescued pets. Picnics. Veggie BBQs. Going to the beach or the Coast. Camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking. Social justice issues, such as poverty, the death penalty, pro-choice reproductive freedoms, the prison industrial complex, LGBTQ (heavy on the Queer!) issues, the necessity of inclusive and interconnected feminism, globalization, fair trade... I could go on for months and barely scratch the surface. A list of issues makes no real difference... education, knowledge, action, sometimes radicalism... those things make a difference.
Favorite moviesI love the classics... especially anything with Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, Sidney Poitier or Audrey Hepburn. "Auntie Mame" and "Breakfast at Tiffany's", while terrible on so many levels - racist, misogynistic, classist - they're both cute in their own flamboyant ways. I also LOVE the X-Men series... "The Matrix", (the second two are okay and tolerable)... "Big Fish" is one of my all-time favorites... everything by Wes Anderson (I didn't discover him until "Rushmore" came out but I've been swooning ever since... oh, "Moonrise Kingdom", be still my beating heart)... "Crooklyn" just breaks my heart every time I watch it... "Brokeback Mountain" oh I'm going to cry just thinking about it... "Ghost World" is fantastic and I actually liked the movie more than the graphic novel (Burn me at the stake of hipsterdom!)... I'm a sucker for James Bond movies, especially with the absolutely perfect Pierce Brosnon and that cretin Sean Connery... and then I adore three scary movies: "Eve's Bayou", "The Skeleton Key" and "Stigmata". There are so many other movies that I love... too many to recall and too many to mention.
Favorite musicI really love a wide range of music: 70s punk, 80s wave, 90s indie punk, ska & alternative, neo-soul, contemporary indie folk, alt-country, indie alternative, Bollywood soundtracks, Indian trance, progressive country (I could listen to The Dixie Chicks and Natalie Maines' new record all day, every day), bluegrass, Motown and REAL reggae (but not the homophobic, women-hating stuff, so no Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Sizzla, a lot of dancehall and ragga, or anyone/thing like them/that... I'm into the peace and love music like The Skatellites, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, of course, and his many musical offspring, The Wailers, Desmond Dekker, Jimmy Cliff, Johnny Nash, Tony Tribe... the list goes on and on.)
Favorite booksI simply love to read, but I don't read trash. I read vintage field guides, how-to manuals (I simply adore Sunset books!), gardening books, anything about nature (Oh, Rachel Carson!), progressive non-fiction and snotty hipster high-brow fiction. I am truly a nerd with my love of books.
